Hello everyone, I’m Surgeebee, and I am a talent, influencer, and gamer under Hubient Agency and Hubient Esports. I wanted to discuss the concept of mental barrier and some strategies I personally use to overcome them. This is a subjective take on mental barrier and note that everyone’s experiences with mental barrier differs from one another.

Mental barrier is a psychological factor that acts as a wall in your head which may prevent you from making decisions or reacting to stimulus. Simplistically, mental barrier is a self-enacting belief that apply limitations to themselves. This includes not believing in your own abilities, questioning your potential, decreasing your self-worth or making assumptions about others.

This could be a tricky concept to wrap your head around but let me expand on it. Mental barrier in one way can be define by someone not believing in themselves; the “I can’t do it” attitude and simply not believing that they can complete certain tasks can result in their inevitable failure of it. For example: I have a ridiculous fear of water; phobia of water is the reason I tell people that I can’t swim which acts as my own mental barrier regarding swimming. Not believing that I can swim resulted in me never developing my swimming skills. However, once given the chance and tackling my fear with enough trust, I was able to learn how to swim. Not that I enjoy it but simply overcoming a fear or reason that was the roots of your mental barrier can help you overcome it.

Next mental barrier point involves making assumptions about others. This can be observed in gaming where someone believes that the other person is better thus already limiting their own abilities and performance before the match even begins. This mental barrier can be extremely powerful and used in psychological warfare in the past however learning to not make assumptions about others can assist you in overcoming this “fear” of them. My strategy of overcoming this mental barrier involve in changing my mindset; having a positive mindset where I will learn from my mistakes and each time. I lose a match, I will learn to improve on my skill. This positive mindset gives me an edge in games and E-sports where I prevent myself from dwelling on losses and strive to improve for the next.

The last point for mental barrier evolves around one’s beliefs of the world around them. In other words, stereotypes and what is considered the norm in society. People wants to fit in and be “normal” and this limits people to show their differences. The differences that separate you from me is what make you unique and special. These differences can be cherishing rather than suppress in fear of not fitting in. The “how things should be done” concept can be used in workplaces however it shouldn’t govern your lifestyle and way of living. Wear what you want, whatever color you choose, play whatever games you enjoy rather than following your friends. Be you and that’s being normal.
Lastly, if you identify these mental barriers but have a hard time overcoming them, talk to a trusted friend or reach out to me. At the end of the day, we all must learn and live with our differences, might as well do so while being happy and being yourself. That’s all for my quick tips for overcoming your mental barrier. Hopefully some of these helped you out! Don’t forget to follow all my social media as well as Hubient to stay up to date. Til next time, stay fresh!
