Hello Armies! This is Mr.Frog HUBient and today I will give you my first impression about a run-and-gun shooter video game with roguelike elements developed by Veewo Games. Neon Abyss
Neon Abyss can be described as a run and gun shooter that is played side-scrolling. It also incorporates many gameplay mechanics common to dungeon crawlers, as well as platform games. As a member of the “Grim Squad”, players will assume the role of Hades (the Greek god of Underworld). Additional characters can be unlocked through progress or by purchasing downloadable content (DLC). The Grim Squad starts their journey at a neon-lit nightclub. Their goal is to explore the Abyss region, which is subterranean. Through a series of procedurally created levels, they will hunt down and destroy all New Gods. To access locked rooms or vaults, players can teleport back to previous locations.
Randomly, players may be gifted a variety of weapons and other items that can alter the game’s rules or statistically increase the damage to their characters. A player may find eggs that float between their characters, which could hatch into a pet creature with special abilities. The more time the current player character lives, the more likely it is that other pets will evolve to offer greater benefits over the course of the run. All passive effects can be combined between any item or pet. There is no limit to the number of combinations that can be used. Additional unlockable features include bosses and new rooms.
Neon Abyss is a simpler rogue-like in terms of gameplay. It doesn’t have a dodge roll button. Instead, you must walk and jump to avoid projectiles, which is much easier than in a 2D environment. You are often forced to accept damage or even death when there are too many bullets and no way to avoid them. You’ll find a variety of weapons and other items as you move through the floors. They all work together to produce different outcomes. You will get rebounding explosion bullets if you also collect the Elastic gel and the popcorn item. You will find more and more synergies as you go along, and you’ll have fun exploring the Abyss.
Neon Abyss offers a fast-paced, fun twist on the rogue-like genre. It also has a solid gameplay loop. It brings new ideas to the table through the use of collectible eggs and a wide range of enemies, weapons, and synergies. However, there are some drawbacks. Neon Abyss is not a title to buy because of its performance issues, lack of the usual dodge button and chaotic room design.
