Kog’Maw is a putrid lizard-like creature summoned by the same ominous voice that led the prophet Malzahar to Icathia. This beast manifested himself amongst the haunting ruins of the forsaken city through a fissure between the spaces. The spark that summoned this monster was now leading him towards Malzahar.
The most important feature of Kog’Maw is its spammable long range Living Artillery ability: with that Kog’Maw can support the team with damage while being completely safe. Due to this capability, in the late game Kog’Maw shines as a anti-tank hero, but with two major issues: the mana required to spam the ultimate is very high and, if caught alone, this hero lacks damage bursts or escaping abilities resulting in almost certain death.
Kog’Maw is almost exclusively played in the bot lane where he is currently sitting at a 51.68% win rate as of patch 11.7. Kog’Maw isn’t the strongest pick for the bot lane, but isn’t particularly weak either. When picking Kog’Maw in season 11, it’s important to have a support that can enable his carry potential and keep him away from harm. If no one is there to peel for Kog’Maw, he is often a hard champion to play.
Kog’Maw is one of the few champions in League of Legends that can work perfectly with both pure attack damage and ability power builds. His ability scaling is very much hybridized, which makes Kog’Maw suited as a marksman or as a mage. The most common way to play Kog’Maw historically is as a marksman in the bot lane, but certain meta have favored Kog’Maw as a mage in the mid lane.
