Hello Armies. This is Mr. Frog Hubient again with another Hero Spotlight. And today we are going to feature the ninth overwatch hero to join in the game. Mei!
Heroes of the Storm is getting a new hero, specifically Overwatch’s Mei. Blizzard’s MOBA is made up nearly entirely of characters from other Blizzard titles, making it the only game where you can see a character like Kerrigan fight Diablo. Mei will be the ninth Overwatch hero to join the game, and she will be categorized as a tank.
Seeing Overwatch heroes translated into Heroes of the Storm is always interesting, because the developers have a very clear idea of the hero’s abilities and the tool set players will expect them to have. Some Overwatch heroes are close to a 1:1 remapping into Heroes; other characters need to be changed far more. Mei is definitely one of the most altered heroes. Her Overwatch ultimate is a basic ability here, and she has lots of new abilities, like the ability to slide forward on ice or create a giant snowball.

Heroes of the Storm also gives heroes different skins than they have in Overwatch. Heroes of the Storm’s Mei will be released with a series of cute pajama onesies, which is more elaborate than the pajama skin Mei has in Overwatch. Mei will be released alongside Heroes of the Storm’s Nexomania event, which brings a luchadore wrestling-themed set of challenges and rewards to the game. Blizzard announced that they would be ramping down production on Heroes of the Storm in 2019. Mei will be the fifth new hero added since that announcement.
She feels strong, but not overly strong. Especially compared to how oppressive Deathwing was when he came out. Instead, she’ll probably come out as a solid tank, but one that can be countered by things like high burst damage directed at her, or anything that locks her in place. It turns out that she can dish out the crowd control, but not take it.
I managed to play a few games as her on the PTR and I’m still surprised at how much crowd control she brings. Mei has an absolutely absurd amount of CC abilities. She can blind, slow, stun, knockback, and if you take her Avalanche ultimate – knockback and stun in a way that Muradin could only dream of. She’s amazingly fun — it turns out that making the other team miserable can be a good time.
Well that’s all for Mei. What do you think about this hero? Let me know in the comment section below if you have used this hero before and what you can say about her. Thank you again, Armies and catch you in the next one!
