Hello, Armies! This is Mr. Frog Hubient again and we are here to give you another hero spotlight. Today, we are going to feature one of the reliable heroes in the game Heroes of the Storm. Imperius!
He has been a long-awaited Nexus addition and one of the most requested heroes for the game. After playing around with the PTR, I have compiled my thoughts into this article. Here’s a breakdown of Imperius’s kit.
Each ability has its own trait mark that is applied to the target. Each Brand has its own 10-second cooldown. The 10 second cooldown for previously applied marks will not be refunded if you apply another trait mark via another ability. Each ability’s mark is displayed above the enemy hero in an order specific to it: Q->W->E from left to right. Celestial Charge uses a similar targeting mechanism to Gul’Dan’s Corruption. It’s a line skillhot with an AoE starting point that can be separated from your hero. Because the ability is a “dash of sorts”, Imperius will physically move to the AoE’s starting point. Imperius will not deal damage or stun to any enemies he passes through during his movement. To be able to affect an enemy, the spear AoE must contact them.
Remember that the stun can be channeled if you have impaled an enemy soldier. You can’t interrupt your stun. You can only take a few limited actions on the channel. This does not include cancelling the stun. You can only take two actions: cast your ‘E, Molten Armor and/or activate Level 7 Talent Holy Fervor. If you have impaled an enemy hero you must channel the force or be stopped before you can make another move. Celestial Charge can be used to cross terrain. To make Genji look the best, ensure that the spear AoE base is not placed beyond the wall you wish to jump over. Otherwise, you will just run into the wall.

It is possible to miss targets very close to your target. Remember that your cursor should be at the base of the spear, not the tip. If you aim too close to your target, it will cause the spear AoE to be missed. If you are right in front of your opponent, aim to release the ability by placing your cursor on their targeting circle. To get comfortable with Celestial Charge, do some practice. The duration of Molten Armor ticks 12x, and the ability’s corresponding trait marks (the third in a group of 3 dots above the target) are applied to each tick. If you are auto-attacking a Hero with your Molten Armor, AoE, during the duration, a new traits mark is reapplied each damage tick. This allows you to get multiple passive procs from the same ability. This powerful interaction makes Molten Armor much more potent than you might think. You’ll likely get one more trait-empowered auto attack than you think. Molten Armor ticks faster than you can auto attack, so even if your auto attack hits after your E ticks out, the last tick will still apply your ability’s Valorous Brand Mark and you’ll get an additional empowered auto attack off, even after Molten Armor ends.
You can activate Molten Armor while you are using Celestial Charge impale channels, as mentioned previously. You won’t get immediate damage output unless you are looking for it. Instead, wait until the channel is finished before activating your E. This will allow you to auto attack and receive more Valorous Brand procs throughout the duration of your Molten Armor. Angelic Armaments, a Heroic that has both offensive and defensive components, is powerful. Angelic Armaments can do a lot of damage. It’s comparable to a weaker Pyroblast, if all the swords land. Do not get tunneled onto the shield. You can still use the Heroic to do damage if necessary. Pop it a little early to avoid the delay of 3 seconds while the shield expires. Here’s some food for thought: The ideal scenario with Angelic Armaments involves inflicting a lot of damage but not enough to destroy the shield. In other words, you get the most value out of the defensive component and still have access to the offensive component. With the initial dash portion, you can pass through walls. This allows you to surprise your opponents by using creative engagement angles. You can also use Wrath of the Angiris, which is a Genji Swift Strike-esque escape. This, combined with Celestial Charge’s mobility makes Imperius very difficult to find if he has to.
Concerning movement, when you are Johanna Falling Sword, you can move through walls, but not through other terrain or structures. You just need a passenger to help you. Your last right-click/directional input will determine your position when you land. Your opponent will always land in your direction, while you will be a little behind, but still in the same vector. The position icons displayed in the game don’t always show your landing position. Why is it important to know your landing position?
Your CC is solid and you deal respectable damage in team fights. You can follow up on the CC of your team members and/or look for opportunities using Solarion’s fire slow. Keep your Molten Armor aside for when you take some damage. This will allow you to get the most out of the healing component and your trait procs, if you have taken Battle Hunger. To proc the AoE marks, remember to pop Holy Fervor. Also, keep in mind that the combination of Battle Hunger, Holy Fervor and Molten Armor makes for a strong teamfight against clumped-up enemies.
It will be hard for Imperius, who isn’t as sticky as Sonya and has less damage, to solo the backline. You can do some zoning and have the survivability with Molten Armor or your Heroic. Your role is to be a moderate threat, a strong frontline and have good CC potential. When evaluating the progress of the teamfight look out for meaningful, impactful opportunities to Celestial Charge. Celestial Charge is a powerful threat. Your opponents must respect your abilities and be able to pressure you when you’re down. It is important to use it effectively. Sometimes it is a good idea to save it for an escape, if you are attempting to zone the enemy’s rearline.
So, that’s it for Imperius. What do you think about this Hero? Comment below. Again, this is Mr. Frog and catch you next time on our Heroes of the storm Hero Spotlight
