Hello, Armies. Welcome to another Dota 2 hero spotlight. And today, we are going to feature one of the playable heroes in the game. Batrider
Batrider is one of those rare heroes who do exceptionally well at higher MMRs but are misunderstood or misused in lower ratings. This will be changed and we will briefly explain why and how Batrider is so successful.
Batrdier used to be played by jumping in with a Blink Dagger and Lasso a target. Once they were out, Lasso the target with Force Staff, and then ganging up on them. Then, you would start a fight in 5v4. Although this is still possible, it is not the most popular or most successful. High-level players are primarily a magic damage dealing core, while their catch potential is secondary. This is how most high-level players play the hero. They play a very aggressive Dota style, stacking Sticky Napalm constantly, and preparing for a repositioning Flamebreak to Firefly.
This kind of approach demands a different item build, one that does not prioritize having instant initiation, but rather the one that allows for long flights to always be in Batrider’s favor. While Batrider can be technically played in multiple positions, he is finding the most success mid, so we are going to concentrate on this role specifically. After getting Bottle and Magic Stick, most Batrider players go for Boots of Travel into Black King Bar. This approach requires a new item build. It should not be based on instant initiation but one that allows for long flights. Technically, Batrider can play in many positions but he finds the most success playing mid. We will be focusing on that role. Most Batrider players will get a Bottle and Magic Stick.

However, his second item progression doesn’t try to compensate for it. Most players choose traditional Blink Dagger as their next choice. This is often followed by an Aether lens into Octarine core building up. Because it significantly increases the chances of Lasso casting on a priority target, the extra Cast Range is almost non-negotiable. Octarine Core can be delayed by a Force Staff purchase. This item is historically useful on Batrider, and it also helps to break Linken’s Sphere once they begin coming out.
The skill that is built on the hero’s character is simple and leaves little room for error. Prioritize Sticky Napalm to get an early value level Flamebreak for the Laning stage. Next, max out Firefly and take Lasso if you have it. Many players skip level ten talent altogether and instead opt for Sticky Napalm radius 1 when they have no other options. The Flamebreak talent can be acquired at levels twenty-five and twenty-five.
Surprisingly most high-level players choose the -10 Flaming Lasso cooldown at level fifteen. While it may be justified in professional matches, it is not recommended in pubs. The Movement Speed bonus is very effective and makes a huge difference in most matchups. We hope our post will inspire people to rediscover their hero. Batrider’s win rate this week in Divine+ pubs is 53.5%, but it is below 45% for all brackets. Dota is heavily balanced around high-level play. Therefore, nerfs and reworks will likely be coming soon.
