Hello, Armies. Mr. Frog HUBient is here again for another hero spotlight. Today we are going to feature another hero named Mephisto.
Mephisto is the Lord of Hatred and a Ranged Assassin Hero from the Diablo franchise. His brethren consider him to be the most cunning. His vile influence, even while he was imprisoned in the soulstone, corrupted Zakarum and forced them to break the seal. This gave him the freedom to reunite the Prime Evils with humanity. He now enters the Nexus, where all will kneel before him!
Mephisto was born from seven heads of Tathamet the great dragon at the beginning time. He is Lord Archdemon, Aspect of Hatred, and one of Seven Great Evils and Three Prime Evils. He was the most skilled and cunning of the seven Great Evils. He unites the Burning Hells and is its true leader, manipulating demons and mortals alike. Mephisto, along with his siblings, waged a war against Heavenly Host and High Heavens. This war would go on for eternity, until the Worldstone mysteriously vanished and stopped the war. Inarius, his lover angel and renegade daughter Lilith, stole the Worldstone to create Sanctuary. They fled the conflict with a group of demons and angels that were not as enthralled by the conflict and made Sanctuary their home. The renegades mated, and their offspring, which were unions of demon and angel, would become known later as the Nephalem. Inarius, fearful of their abilities, used the Worldstone to weaken each generation of the Nephalem. Their descendants would eventually become the mortal race of human beings.
Mephisto discovered Sanctuary thousands of years later. Sanctuary was created by humans who summoned demons of the Burning Hells to Sanctuary to gain their powers and conquer the world. Mephisto, sensing their demonic heritage Mephisto set out to enslave humans and use them to create an army against the High Heavens in Eternal Conflict. Mephisto, a benevolent Spirit Of Love, Mephisto, created the cult called the Triune. He posed as the Spirits of Determination, Dialon, Baal, and Spirit of Creation, Bala. The Sin War saw the Nephalem Uldyssian, along with his fellow Edyrem bring down the cult as well as its leaders, Mephisto and their children, Lilith, and Lucion. The High Heavens discovered Sanctuary and Uldyssian gave his life to stop Sanctuary being destroyed. Mephisto signed an agreement with the Angiris Council, swearing that Sanctuary would remain neutral and humanity would decide its fate without interference from either side. Soon after, a truce was struck between the High Heavens & the Burning Hells.
Mephisto didn’t intend to honor the agreement, but he continued to work on his plan to invade Sanctuary to sway the people to the Burning Hells. Andariel, Duriel and Azmodan, the Lesser Evils, wanted to keep the truce. However, Mephisto became sick and tired and started a rebellion which ended in the expulsion of the Prime Evils from Sanctuary. The Three Prime Evils, who appeared on Sanctuary as weak, roamed the globe for forty years spreading terror, destruction, and hatred. The Horadrim, an unifying order of mages, was created by Tyrael and eventually hunted them down. They then imprisoned their Prime Evils in soulstones. Mephisto was captured first and taken to Kurast where the Zakarum Church was assigned to guard him. This was Mephisto’s plan. He worked in prison to infuse hatred and prejudice into Zakarum’s faith. This transformed the priesthood into his unwitting servants. Mephisto sent Archbishop Lazarus from Mephisto to Khanduras, where he corrupted King Leoric. He also awakened Diablo. This set the stage for the three brothers to return.
The Dark Wanderer, possessed by Diablo, and Baal were released from their prisons and arrived at the temple Zakarum to free Mephisto. Diablo returned to Hell to rally the remaining Prime Evils loyalists. Baal traveled north to corrupt Worldstone and combine their forces to form an army that would enslave all of Sanctuary’s life and set fire to the Heavens. Mephisto remained at the temple but was soon defeated by a group of mortals, including Cassia and Xul who were pursuing Diablo. Mephisto was released from prison and his soulstone was taken to Hellforge. It was destroyed, sending Mephisto to the Black Abyss.
Mephisto is a highly aggressive Ranged Assassin who deals incredible sustained damage by reducing the cooldowns of his abilities when damaging enemies.
Mephisto’s debut was in Diablo II (June 2000). He made his book debut in Legacy of Blood (May 2001), eleven months later. Paul Eiding voices Mephisto in Diablo II and Heroes of the Storm. He is also the seventeenth Diablo Hero in the game. According to one of Mephisto’s Quotes, he is still in Sankekur’s host body. However, the design for him seems to be based on his true self as revealed in The Book of Cain (December 2011,). There were times in Mephisto’s development when he could make enemies hostile to one another.
